Shane Perrine, PhD
Research Assistant Professor Mailing Address: 2353 Scott Hall, 540 East Canfield , Detroit , MI, 48209 E mail: sperrine@med.wayne.edu Phone office: (313) 577-9989 Phone lab: (313) 577-9960 Fax office: (313) 577-9958 Research Interests My research focuses on the neuropsychopharmacology of drug addiction and depression. The goal of my research is to understand the mechanisms by which drugs, particularly psychostimulants like cocaine, methamphetamine, and methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), affect neurochemistry and behavior. Additionally, my research seeks to identify and understand the plasticity of the human brain in response to acute and repeated drug exposure, as well as, stressors and cues that lead to anxiety, depression and relapse to drug seeking. I am currently pursuing three major research studies: 1) the cardiovascular, neurochemical and behavioral effects of psychostimulants, 2) the effects of opioid ligands on prevention of cocaine-seeking behavior, 3) the effects of ketamine and glutamatergic ligands on depression-related behaviors and related neurochemistry.
